ASUS Fonepad vs Nexus 7: video comparison - Italian Notebook

Into Colleagues at PocketNow have made a nice video comparison between the ‘ ASUS Fonepad and Nexus 7 . The first, which we have recently proposed tests and also the unboxing, you will recall is just an alternative version of the model initially created for Google, for which retains many features but it also introduces new ones. Since then, so to speak of two “variations” on the same theme , the comparison is of particular interest.

ASUS FonePad vs Nexus 7

Into It starts from the manufacturing and construction quality . The Nexus 7 offers a polycarbonate shell with soft touch coating for the cover, while the Fonepad chose the much more robust and elegant aluminum alloy with a satin finish which, however, notes the editor, it is also more prone to scratching than the Nexus 7. Dimensions and weight instead remained unchanged, both tablet weighs 340 grams and has a thickness of slightly more than 10 mm between the two so there is no difference and are not discernible advantages of one over the other.

Into You will then go to specifications . In both cases, the display is a multitouch IPS type with a diagonal of 7 inches and a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels . The Fonepad, however, has more technology ASUS Splendor , which allows fine tuning of many parameters such as luminance, contrast, saturation, color tem perature etc. making it possible to obtain a higher image quality cut on personal preferences. Also almost identical hardware platform, but with one major difference. Both tablets in fact have 1 GB of RAM, while for storage the Nexus 7 is available in two versions, 16 or 32 GB, without possibility of expansion , while the Fonepad includes cuts of 8 or 16 GB, but it comes with a microSD memory card reader.

Into Nexus 7, however, uses an Nvidia Tegra 3 SoC with quad core processor 1.2 GHz, combined with a ULP GeForce GPU, while the Fonepad ASUS has opted for an Intel Atom Z2420 processor , a single core, although with support for HyperThreading technology, with a clock rate of 1.2 GHz As already highlighted in the previous tests, in daily use, the two solutions are equal or nearly so, but when you switch startup application of heavier or playing video games more challenging, Tegra 3 retains a degree of advantage, employing a few seconds less to start the app and ensuring a greater fluidity in general is that Web browsing in video games, and also with regard to the reactivity of the interface. The rest of the cord instead is identical. In fact we find both products modules WiFi and Bluetooth and a 1.2 megapixel front camera.

Into The Fonepad but more as mentioned also offers a 3G module that allows you to use it as a smartphone and in some markets, including our own, also offers a 3.1 megapixel rear camera, too ‘ it absent in the Nexus 7. Identical also the operating system, Google Android 4.1 Jelly Bean version, which offers the most customization and more advanced features nell’Asus Fonepad, which by the way are already pre-installed several proprietary app. Our colleagues at the end conclude that, if the user is not interested in telephony features , the Nexus 7 is still the best choice, but frankly the two devices are basically equivalent, from its creation the Fonepad has a more cured, a 3G module, an internal memory and an expandable OS more personalized, while the Nexus 7 offers slightly higher performance in specific settings and a battery a bit ‘bigger (4325 mAh versus 4270), for which we seem to be able to say that the choice is very subjective and it is up to the user only.
