LG L7 II: Italian Review by Nexus-Lab - Nexus Lab (Blog)

The new L-series has arrived in Italy with three new devices, II L3, L5 II (review here) and L7 II that we analyze in the following review written.

Being the flagship device of this series, its price is significantly higher, so it must demonstrate that the outlay of a more important figure is attributed to a hardware quality, but also the software, top.

PACK – [VOTE 7]

The packaging of the LG L7 II does not surprise us with any accessory in this particular small white box and gray.

The smartphone is wrapped between two transparent films and specific protections for the buttons on the frame.

Inside is the classic headphones, not ear, with the dedicated button to call. The charger in travel size using the microUSB cable / USB cable included in the box. The handbook is fairly basic, and shows us just how to disassemble your smartphone to insert battery and Sim classic.

DESIGN – [VOTE 7,6]

Surely LG did not want to try to propose an innovative design or different from the first series L. L7 II is only slightly more rounded, with the very compact dimensions, 121.5 x 66.6 x 9.7 mm thick.

The bodies are composed entirely of plastic of good quality, but do not have the smooth texture that is printed on other products instead of the L Series the frame is a small chrome strip of plastic.

Its weight is, 118 grams, and is very comfortable to hold and use with one hand.

HARDWARE – [VOTE 7.7]

  • AMSM8225 CPU Dual Core 1 GHz
  • 768 MB RAM
  • GPU PAdreno 203
  • DISPLAY IPS 4.3-inch, 800 x 480 pixels, 217 PPI
  • MEMORY 4 GB expandable

We are facing a mid-range device interesting features, especially considering the 4.3-inch IPS display.

Unfortunately the resolution is not the highest, 800 x 480 pixels, with a density stood at 217 PPI.

The display to direct light of the sun is readable when set to maximum brightness, with a viewing angle of perhaps one of the largest in its class, surpassing the AMOLED and TFT.

The Ram unfortunately does not reach the single GB but stops at 768 MB. This turns out to be sufficient for most situations, though with many applications running you start to feel the weight of these going to affect the fluidity of the interface.

The GPU Adreno 203 performs quite well with games, though with titles like Nova 3 drops in frame rate are not very rare, which makes us understand how L7 II is not the most suitable device to play titles with more complex graphics.

The internal memory stands at only 4 GB, of which only 1.7 are free. Fortunately there is also a slot for microSD, which allows us to increase the memory of up to 32GB.

The physical key system presents an internal LED that will go to illuminate the edges of different colors depending on the type of notification.

SOFTWARE – [VOTE 8.3]

Android 4.1.2 is already present on the basic device, which uses the new LG’s proprietary interface.

This presents no major cosmetic changes to the OS, but adds many valuable features that will surely enrich the overall offer of the device.

App on which the South Korean manufacturer puts more emphasis is Quick Memo, a particular system of record that can be invoked through the small key or via the dedicated physical button in the pull-down system.

The great peculiarity of this Memo, lies in the fact that we could keep notes superimposed even while using the smartphone, so you always have a view of the information you might need later.

There is a special menu for the management of the home page called up via the button at the top right or by holding your finger in the background. Here you could find many applications to be included in initial screens, the list of widgets and shortcuts for the selection of backgrounds, dynamic or static.

The QWERTY keyboard has a very classic, with the number keys in the second function, and also the ability to move within the sentence with two arrows. You can also activate the correction of the most common terms pinyin, such as ch or eng.

The text messages are distributed in discussions as the most modern devices, while their shipment can be programmed.

The internet browsing is quite good, the browser is in fact a lot of fluid even with extremely heavy pages. Of course this is not compatible with the Flash Player. The system browser is not pre-installed Chrome, but still you can enjoy the synchronization of our data with your Google account.

Safety Care instead is an app dedicated to our security, that will signal our location or send a distress message, if you will not use the phone for a certain period of time, allowing us also automatic redirection of the call the rescue.

The drawer is divided into three sections, applications, download and Widgets, while the last button allows us to organize the apps and uninstall them directly.

The task manager pre-installed allows us to have vision of the amount of memory used, and consequently also to close apps one by one or all together.

QUALITY: AUDIO [VOTE 8] – CALLS [VOTE 8] – SIGNAL [VOTE 8]

The audio from the cash system is particularly good, it has a high volume, but despite this they do not feel out of tune. Even calls from earpiece are very good. We tried it even in situations critical enough, basements or mountain, and confirmed that our interlocutor still feel good.

CAMERA / VIDEO CAMERA – [VOTE 7.2]

The 8 megapixel camera will satisfy the vast majority of users, although we noticed some trimming especially in pictures with close-ups of subjects or those with little light.

Fortunately we have many system functions to increase the versatility of the device, thanks to features such as call voice, which enables us to say one word to trigger automatic L7 II.

The videos are shot unfortunately only at 720 x 480 pixels, a resolution now with old videos that turn out to be rather wide. Maybe even lower the better quality at 640 x 480 pixels.

AUTONOMY - [VOTE 8.5]

Excellent performance of the battery 2460 mAh, which without much effort can bring us to the end of the day with a few minutes spare. This autonomy can be increased by even the proprietary functions dedicated to saving energy in the system.

FINAL COMMENT - [VOTE 7.7 (not an average) ]

Being L7 II smartphone top of the range L-series of the giant South Korean brings with it higher expectations.

Unfortunately, its price has not increased proportionally cheaper than the younger brother, L5 II, which has a more modest hardware, but that the use of every day it is highlighted.

L7 II is still a good product, easy to use, with a good battery and a nice display, display that could make a difference if he had a higher resolution.
