Ubuntu Touch: official support guaranteed only 4 Nexus and Nexus ... - Hardware upgrade.it

Since it was announced Ubuntu OS Touch , it is clear that Canonical has offered official support exclusively to the devices of the Nexus family. From the outset the new operating system was supported by Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus Nexus 7 and 10, leaving the task to the community to increase the compatibility with other devices.

For a few months since the release of the Nexus 5, Canonical has not officially work on the new Google smartphone Pure and announced the closing of jobs on the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 (2012) and Nexus 10. Touch Ubuntu OS will officially support only 4 Nexus and Nexus 7 (2013) , in an attempt to focus efforts on fewer devices possible.

The ultimate goal is to unify the desktop environment and the Mobile under a single code base before the release of Ubuntu 14:04, in order to have a ‘unique operational platform for the different types of devices. At the moment, therefore, the Nexus 5 is not officially supported and will be the community to release a version compatible with the latest terminal Google Experience, as already done with fifty devices.

There is no technical reason , therefore, to base the decision to temporarily shelve Nexus 5, the choice made for purely economic issues. Alexander Sack of Canonical explained how the work is all focused on the emulator for ARM and x86 devices, so that it is ready by April, when it will be released Ubuntu 14.04.

Touch Ubuntu OS will not stop working, of course, the devices are no longer officially supported. Canonical does not release more updates, so it is not lawful to expect patches or bug-fix officers. Given the open-source nature of the project, however, are numerous possibilities to see third-party updates made and disseminated by the community.
