The increase of ‘fair compensation is bound to have a knock-on all technology products, smartphones, tablets and computers. It is a burden of a handful of Euros which is added to the existing one. In a nutshell, the tax on a tablet will go from the current 1.90 euro to 5.20 euro, that on a computer from € 1.90 to € 6 and the on smartphones – iPhone 5S, 5C iPhone, iPhone 4S, Nexus 5, Samsung Galaxy S4 included – from the current 90 cents to 5.20 euro. That being the case, the changes will take effect from the month of January next year
A specific amendment to the law of stability brought by four deputies of the Democratic Party – Free Ribaudo, Magda Culotta, Antonino Moscatt and Lilliana Ventricelli – provides that fair compensation be revised “amounting to at least the corresponding European averages established by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, in consultation with the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers (SIAE), and calculated with exclusive regard to European countries whose legal systems is provided in the remuneration for private copying for personal use. ”

Altroconsumo is promoting a collecting signatures for a petition to be forwarded to the Minister of Heritage and cultural activities and tourism, Max Bray, lest they be further increased “rates of fair compensation for private copying on smartphones , tablets, computers, USB drives, memory, and all other devices and equipment subject to this levy, as required by the SIAE. ” Up to this point involved more than 3,000 people.
