The latest Google branded phone is made with technology of the first order, is the first updated to Android 4.4 KitKat and costs just € 349. Where’s the catch? It is sold out. Google Play Devices On the 16GB model can now only be ordered with delivery time estimated 4-5 weeks. If you’re itching to have it right away, tip version from € 399, ready to leave the warehouse in just 10 days.

The first impact with the Nexus 5 leaves surprised: it weighs 135 grams, and in his hand, still seems lighter, mainly because of the size of the display: a panel 4.95 “in Gorilla Glass 3 with Full HD resolution of 1920 × 1080, the stuff of 441 pixels per inch – among the highest that there are around. The processor is a Snapdragon 800, quad-core 2.3 GHz, powerful, yet economical in fuel consumption. In fact, in normal use the battery 2300 mAh impressive performance, capable of lasting a full day and even more: I tried for days during a trip abroad, also constantly using the Wi-Fi hotspot to share the connection HSPA * local SIM with my iPhone and arriving in the evening without having to find an outlet – or connect a laptop battery. The stated standby time is 300 hours, talk time of that 17, 250-10 against the iPhone 5s, confirming that autonomy is one of the weaknesses of the smartphone of Cupertino. According to the tests of PhoneArena intense use, instead, with a greater number of app open in multitasking and constant use of the phone and the navigation between calls, the Nexus 5 not doing very well, as far as average.

* Connectivity Nexus 5 still supports LTE, which so far I have not had the chance to try.

Ah, if I had at home some kind of accessory, wireless charging is incorporated. In terms of connectivity, there’s also the NFC with Android Beam.

Sottotono the camera, 8 megapixels, not well suited to dynamic situations: a missing burst mode continuous shooting and reaction times are higher than any other phone in the past test these parts. The picture quality, however, is worthy of the expectations, thanks to optical image stabilizer + and HDR mode.

The manual modes allow you to adjust the white balance and exposure, add / remove the GPS tags image or choose a default program between Action, Night, Sunset and Day .

Among the options appreciate the delayed shutter release timer customizable and 360 ° panoramic pictures Photo Sphere – the function can better outdoors, with distant horizon than in the interior, when the subjects are too close to allow several shots to stick regularly. Different, however, the function Panorama, that can not be achieved with a collage, but continuously moving the smartphone – such as with the iPhone. Nexus 5 also offers some editing options preset filters, edges, and brightness and contrast settings with a Dial feature that automatically puts together some shots in a single table, also giving the ability to create animated GIFs. The display of the gallery you can order grilled or in sequence by date, venue, music, people or tags. All photos are automatically synced with Google thanks to real-time backup (on Cellular network) or at the first available Wi-Fi: All contents are saved to your profile and kept private unless you choose to share it – as happens with images and videos taken with the Google Glass. Photos from the app, however, you can create small video to share around selecting between the contents of the gallery, adding a title, an effect and a soundtrack. The result is a lot of fun, especially if you happen to take 500 photos in one weekend.

The design of the Nexus 5 is minimal I personally like, even if it does not shine for their originality. The front panel has no logos or buttons and is perfectly symmetrical: it recognizes the right to just looking good where they are positioned speaker, front camera (1.3 megapixel) – at the top – and LED notifications – bottom: light blue when there are notifications to control, white when there is no news.

Android KitKat and integration with Google Now are the real strength of the Nexus 5: scrolling through the homescreen to the left leads to the custom tabs appointments, news and weather based on what that’s in the mail, calendar and personal interests added manually. And with the update coming tomorrow, also added some interactive functions with the phone. According to
Yes, in the video the screen is locked, but – Giurin giurello – proof I made it to the screen unlocked. It does not work.

works, however, if the phone is in English (cards, then, to understand what you want to Nexus). In fact, the Google team Italy works fine.

Nexus 5 is available online in two colors black and white, and in two version, 16GB and 32GB. Choose well what you are most interested in, since the memory is not expandable. When in doubt, exaggerate the difference between the two models is only 50 euro (and the availability, as of today, it is still favorable to the bigger model).

You want it? Yes, if you like Android and want a complete phone and not too complicated, packed with features that you will not use. At this price, there is no reason to choose something much more expensive. No, if you like to scramble up the phone, I want to make an intense and very advanced features.

Wired: best value for money in circulation; Android is updated here and will always be a small step ahead of others

Tired: , limited availability (maybe not to bother the partner?) slow camera; clean design, but anonymous
