Nexus 5: Review after 1 month and with Android 4.4.2 from HDblog.it - ??HDblog (Blog)

It’s been several weeks since we brought you the Nexus Review 5 a period of time in which we have continued to use the new Google Phone as its main smartphone the LG G2 associating it with the latest CyanogenMod . Today we return to talk about this device given the many updates that have been released in recent weeks for both Google applications that the real system with Android 4.4.1 which has given way to Android 4.4.2 in about 48 hours .

nexus 5 review

Like it or not aesthetically, the Nexus 5 is a product that hardly goes unnoticed for a user attentive and informed about the news regarding the mobile world. The price is the real catalyst and € 349 for the basic version are very few when compared to the general competition for the same list price. Nexus 5 will not see an unexpected fall in the price and we could imagine a gradual decline through offerings but it is unlikely we will see less than 300 € within 12 months. One more reason to buy it right away without too many fears also aware that in three or four months will not find him at 30/40% less, as often happens with the top range of the various producers. Added to this is a latest generation hardware, a Full HD display and a simple design but clean and pleasant.

In 2013 I used this for a long time virtually all of the top leading range from HTC One Galaxy S4 through G2, Xperia Z1 and trying for a few weeks and also Xperia Z Ultra Galaxy Note 3. All great products and interesting smartphone with major strengths and good qualities.

Nexus 5, at half the price, comes to the market offering virtually the same quality but showing some uncertainty:

  • Display chromatically less pleasant
  • Audio

  • lower case
  • Camera

  • below average
  • Some uncertainty

  • software

All points that Andrea has rightly addressed in the review and led to evaluate the Nexus 5 with a score of 8 out of 10. Today, however, thanks to updates, many considerations have to be slightly revised. Android 4.4.2 with the improvement has not come only for software in general, but has brought a better color balance, better performance camera, an increase in the volume of the system and the elimination of virtually all macro bug emerged.

In addition to this the new compiler was aged ART that, when selected, allows to express the full potential of the Nexus and the pleasantness of a UI without customizations and animations, fluidity and effects really perfect . Since the beginning of November to 5 Nexus today has virtually changed the face, especially using ART and it is definitely more responsive than the Android smartphone you can find on the market.

In light of this the vote in the review has been updated and led to a 8.5 that is not a huge jump from 8 but it is well deserved considering price, performance and improved audio / camera. Unfortunately, the battery life and the lack of expandable memory and the inability to replace the battery can not bring the vote to even higher values.

Many have asked me if I would recommend the Nexus 5 than all Android smartphones and, in the light of the update brought by Android 4.4.2, but I can not answer: absolutely YES. Certainly the simple UI of Android may have less appeal to the multitude of options to the beauty of Sense or Samsung, but the texture of the ecosystem, the many applications that the Holo theme now married and the new update of the GAPPS really do appreciate the new KitKat and its transparency.

Nexus 5 is a smartphone for everyone? Probably not, and probably if I had to give a mobile to a person who does not chew technology every day I would opt for a Moto G, 16GB version seen only in the small difference in price, as with a considerable saving would have the same user experience and Motorola certain applications that could make easier the first step into the world Google Mobile.

If you do not like the pure Google experience fortunately there are many other solutions that do not necessarily have to run after the latest software releases to fix bugs, or have new features work well (thanks to the presence of the updated gapps directly from Google).
